Meta is opening its first retail store next month, where customers can test the Quest VR headset and Portal device.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp parent company Meta is opening its first hardware retail store in California, USA. Visitors to the store, which will open on May 9, will be able to try and purchase Meta’s Portal video devices and Quest virtual reality glasses.
In the Meta store, not only Meta products will be sold, but also other products jointly with brands. For example, Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses released last year will also be introduced here and can be purchased online by customers.
There will be a very extensive trial area in the meta store
The Meta store will have a trial area where customers can test Portal’s video calling features with a store employee. Customers will be able to test demos of Quest 2’s games such as Beat Saber, GOLF+, Real VR Fishing and Supernatural.
Customers will also be able to try and test different styles of Ray-Ban glasses, which can record and share video with the built-in cameras, and test them before they buy. This move by Meta follows in the footsteps of companies like Google, which opened its first retail store last year. If we think about it in terms of hardware sales, this is an important step for Meta at a time when metaverse goals and hardware and experience are becoming increasingly important.
